What is the different between a short and long block?
A short block and a long block are the same dimensions, however they do have features that differentiate them. The reason a short block is called “short” is not due to the size; it is due to the parts that are left out. These include, eads, lifters, oil pan, arms, etc. A short block has crankshaft, pistons, rings, connecting rod, cam and main bearings, and lower block. A long block consists of block, cylinder head, head covers, water pump, oil pump, oil pan, camshaft, crankshaft and valve train.
