The Cummins 4BT is similar to the 5.9L 12v Cummins, but minus two cylinders. This 3.9L, 4 cylinder, inline Diesel was was a popular engine for commercial vans. Chevy Step Vans is one of the most popular vans that ehe 4BT was used in. They were also used in a wide range of construction and agricultural equipment. With the large amount of torque, these engines are commonly used for engine swaps in small trucks, SUV's and jeeps.

Cummins 4BT 3.9 Engine is Limitless
The 4BT is shorter in length then the 6BT, but very similar in other ways. Parts of the engine, such as the injectors, pistons, connecting rods, and valvetrain design are designed and build right from the 12v Cummins. The 4BT is harsher then the 6BT because of the 4 cylinders. The 4BT 3.9 engine can be found in applications with up to a 16,000 lb GVWR.
